FISH MARKET

Located southeast of Lake Garda, where the Mincio river begins to flow, Peschiera is the only town that offers considerable remains from all past eras. An important pile-dwelling center in the Bronze Age, it was a Roman village built on one of the largest roads in northern Italy, remaining a strategic point of defense of the territory even in the Scala era. Today it is mainly remembered and visited for the incredible Venetian fortress still fully preserved, which became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017. During the visit we will be able to understand how and why the Venetians managed to build an invincible bulwark right at this point of the lake. The importance of this town was not underestimated even by the Habsburgs who continued to use the ramparts including them in what was, militarily and strategically, the strong point of the Austrian territory: the Quadrilateral.

Today Peschiera is a lively holiday resort able to offer, in addition to its millenary history, modern and welcoming services for the many visitors who choose it as their destination.

PESCHIERA AT SUNSET

A pleasant walk at sunset will allow us to discover this small town

located southeast of Lake Garda, where the Mincio river begins to flow.

The only village that offers considerable remains of all past eras, we will discover all the historical corners of the glorious history of Peschiera, walking pleasantly through the streets of the center which will reveal interesting and romantic glimpses between land and water. But the most incredible testimony is represented by the Venetian fortress, still fully preserved today and became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017. After climbing up to the bastion, we will be able to enjoy a breathtaking view and understand the point where the lake waters intersect with those of the river. Returning towards the center, we will pass by the famous Austrian fortress which, now become an area for pleasant strolls, was an important and strategic military defense zone for the Habsburgs.
